The award winning Lariaettes are known for their innovative style of dance. They have become a well rounded dance team that, not only performs at football games and other school events, but compete at dance competitions earning many awards. Throughout the year the team learns self discipline, respect, confidence, poise and the hard work necessary to produce quality performances.

The Lariaettes strive to support the community by participating in toy and food drives during the holiday season. The annual dance clinic, which is normally held in December, allows the team to teach future Lariaettes dance routines. Clinic participants are invited to perform at the Spring Show held in April.

The Lariaettes enjoy many social events throughout the year that give the team a chance to bond. Installation is the right of passage for “Babies” as the new girls and escorts are welcomed to the team. Bob and Sue is a father/daughter field routine allowing the Dads a chance to shine. Royal Ball is a formal event recognizing the team and their hard work. And finally, Mother/Daughter luncheon recognizes Moms and yearly awards are announced and next year’s officers are installed.

The year culminates in April with the annual Spring Show. Routines presented at competition, along with new dances, are the highlight of the show. Dance training and Dance II classes, along with dancers from community studios, drill teams and dance clinic participants also perform.

To become a Lariaette, you must have completed Dance training class in addition to trying out for the team in May. See your counselor if you are interested in the drill training class.

Junior boys and girls who are interested in dance can speak with the counsler about the opportunity to be enrolled in Dance 2 during their senior year. Dance 2 consists of girls and boys learning partnering type of dance. Senior girls do not have to be on the dance team to enroll in Dance 2.

Young men can also support the team by becoming a Lariaette Escort. Tryouts are in May. Escorts play an essential part of the Lariaettes by providing support at numerous team activities.

Showtime Nationals Winners

The J. Frank Dobie Lariaettes competed for the final time this year at Showtime Nationals in Galveston this past Saturday and Sunday. After two days of competition, awards were given out and the girls did an outstanding job!! They’ve worked extremely hard this semester, and it all paid off with their best performances of the season! Before awards even began, the girls were extremely proud of themselves, and knew they left everything they had on the floor, regardless of results they were so proud to be a part of the Dobie Lariaettes! Now it was just in the judges hands!

The 2009-2010 J. Frank Dobie Lariaette Military Officers – Colonel Ivette Armenta, Lt. Colonel Libby Garza, Captain Aimee Cessna, & Lieutenant Tristana Guyote – were named large team National Champions for their Officer Hip Hop! They were also 1st runners up to National Champion for both their Officer Lyrical and Officer Jazz!

Our lyrical ensemble to “One Moment More” – choreographed in memory of and dedicated to Gabby Romero – was named 1st runner up to National Champion Large Ensemble out of all the large ensembles at the entire competition, regardless of team size! This is the first time Lyrical Ensemble has placed, but the girls worked extremely hard the last two weeks to perfect it, as the routine meant so much to them, and it payed off!

Senior Nicolette Baade was named a Runner-Up to national grand champion for her lyrical duet! Her partner even danced in a soft cast, as she tore ligaments in her arm at the beginning of the week! We were extremely proud of both girls, and so excited that they placed!

Finally, the team placed in all four team routines, and were named High School Large Team National Champions for Jazz, Modern, and Hip Hop! They were second runner up in Team Pom!
